Now, on to the latest happenings in the world of podcasts this week - read on.
Scoops of the week:
1. Dua Lipa has chosen Gaana as an exclusive partner to release her first-ever podcast in India.
‘Dua Lipa: At Your Service’ is an interview series that will have some of the most exciting minds on board. People who have revolutionized not just their own industries but also culture.
On the launch, the international pop star commented, “I’ve always been so happy for the love and affection of my fans in India. I’m delighted to partner with Gaana’ who has created the perfect platform for me to reach out to my fans.”
2. A few days back, Spotify announced the acquisition of Podsights & Chartable, the podcast measurement and analytics platforms for undisclosed sums. Bryan Barletta, from Sounds Profitable, explains what this means for the third-party platforms. Read on to catch the gist of the article below.
What do these acquisitions actually mean?
If we combine Spotify’s wealth of data with Podsights’, the entire dataset is bound to skew in favor of Spotify as a platform.
Spotify & Podsights can easily swap data, track all the ad spend performance across advertisers and publisher categories and use it to dictate the kind of shows they build and license.
Same goes for Chartable. Suppose it gains the Spotify data, same as Podsights, and combines it with the download-level data from Spotify’s other services (Anchor, Megaphone, and Whooshkaa). In that case, these tools will become more powerful.
If these tools become exclusive to Spotify and its service platforms, it will be a smooth ride for them to land advertisers and publishers. This means that both Podsights and Chartable will no longer be objectively third-party solutions.
Spotify’s SAI narrative
Spotify has been rejecting downloads as podcast advertising’s core metrics and instead has been pushing Streaming Ad Insertion (SAI) to buyers hungry for more data.
In doing so and dismissing Dynamic Ad Insertion and Baked-In form, Spotify has taken over as potentially the largest podcast advertising seller.
What’s the solution?
Bryan calls out to all the third-party platforms to collaborate and practice transparency in collection methods, control group creation & data expiration. Unlike digital advertising, we still have third-party solutions in podcasting that we should fully utilize.
3. Apple Podcasts has shared 4 ways you can optimize your request to get featured for promotion.
4. LinkedIn is debuting its own podcast network that features in-house shows from the LinkedIn News team as well as programs from the industry figures. The shows will be geared towards a professional audience.
5. Libsyn has announced its acquisition of Podcast Ad Reps LLC (PAR), a podcast advertising company and will be combining it with Libsyn’s AdvertiseCast business.
6. PodMatch is a new popular podcasting service that automatically matches podcast hosts and guests together to record interviews. The company has now started paying podcast hosts whenever they release new episodes through their new initiative called PodValue.
7. iHeartMedia is using Veritone’s synthetic voice technology to translate and produce podcasts for new markets. Their top talent can use their verified synthetic voices to scale content across multiple languages.
